Living Wills (also known as Advanced Directives)

A growing number of people want to put into writing guidance for their family as to the treatment of the individual in the event that he or she suffers an accident or long term illness which renders them incapable of making decisions about their own treatment. Such a document is known in this country as a “Living Will” or “Advanced Directive”. Such a document has no formal legal status at present but can be of assistance to a family and/or medical team (or indeed court of law) when dealing with a person who is unable to make decisions about their treatment.

We can discuss the issues with you and draw up a document which properly expresses your preferences. Like a Will, a Living Will can and should be kept under review and revised if necessary.
